Geocache Description:

This is the begining or end of the start of sevral caches to help bring people out and about to this side of town.

Sorell Causeway

The Governor Denison decide to build a causeway as he was an engineer that wanted to improve transport.
Planning it since 1850 and in 1859 the people of Sorell petitioned government for construction of it.
It had taken fifteen years to build the 5km causeway but it was finally completed in 1874.
The cost of completed bridges in 1993 per square metre was approximately $1180.85 Aus dollars. And in 2002 the cost per square metres was approximately $1610.00 Aus dollars.
At the cost of 27,000 quid the Sorell causeway was built it was made to make it easier to get to Midway point and Hobart and save going all the way round to Richmond to get to these places.
